March Free Sheet Music: Si Bheag Si Mhor, an Irish Air and BONUS free music

Updated: Mar 1

Happy March!

St. Patrick's Day is just a few weeks away, so I thought I might arrange the beautiful Irish air, Si Bheag Si Mhor (pronounced "She Beg She More") for you to play this month. Si Bheag Si Mhor is all about fairies, and as you play this tune, rich with the lilting spirit of ancient lore, let it embrace you in the spirit of whimsy and wonder. Imagine emerald fields where mischievous leprechauns hide their pots of gold at the end of the rainbow, and fairies dancing amongst the wildflowers in the misty morning, their laughter mingling with the notes.

I have arranged Si Bheag Si Mhor for both early intermediate and early advanced piano. They will only be available for free for 1 year so print today! After that you can purchase my arrangements at Sheet Music Plus.

Here is an arrangement for the more advanced player:

You might enjoy listening to Si Bheag Si Mhor on harp and the many recordings on Youtube by Irish bands, to get a feel for this enchanting piece. I also have sheet music for sale for Danny Boy, When Irish Eyes Are Smiling and Parting Glass if you're looking for additional Irish music to play. You can see all of my posted arrangements here.

Speaking of fairies, I'm reading a fun historical novel called The Cottingley Secret based on the true story of two girls who claimed to have seen and photographed fairies, in 1917 Cottingley, England. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle believes the photos are authentic, and the "Cottingley Fairies" become a worldwide sensation. I'm about 1/3 of the way though the book and am loving it so far!

If you are new to my blog, welcome! In case you didn't know, I have written a series of piano instruction books for older adults called Upper Hands Piano: A Method for Adults 50+ to Spark the Mind, Heart and Soul, and for younger adults and teens called Piano Powered. I have also arranged songs and pieces for early intermediate students for each of the seasons called Songs of the Seasons: Spring, Summer Winter and Autumn. And also most recently 3 books entitled, The Music Remedy: 12 Passionate Pieces to Move You from [1] Loss to Love; [2] Anxiety to Calm; [3] Discouraged to Hopeful, because playing music can be the best medicine!

To thank you for being my subscriber, I can send you free sheet music for The Irish Washerwoman, which is a fun Irish jig to play (and dance to!) and it also makes a great warm-up exercise. Just request it in an email to upperhandspiano@gmail.com and we will email it right out to you! Keep practicing it evenly as you gradually speed up. By St. Patty's Day it would be great if you could play it uptempo!

Happy St. Patrick's Day to you. As the Irish say: "May your heart be light and happy, may your smile be big and wide, and may your pockets always have a coin or two inside!" And also some good advice: "Don’t be breaking your shin on a stool that’s not in your way." 🍀☺️🍀

With love and music, Gaili

I love this! Your Celtic selections are my faves and I look forward to them every year. For this one I am playing the advanced version's right hand while using he easier version's left hand. Thank you! May the leprechauns be near you.
